WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM MHA

A Shared Commitment

February 20, 2023
Today MHA is launching a new MHA Managing Patient Bias and Requests for Provider Concordance and Reassignment Toolkit.

Developed with Erika McMullen, founder and CEO of Moxie Consulting Group and Dr. Nicole Rochester, founder and CEO of Your GPS Doc, the toolkit will help your teams navigate patient requests for provider concordance and reassignment and support colleagues that are facing bias—based on race, sex, religion, age, and more—from their patients.

To learn how to use the new resource along with recommended processes and workflows, plan to attend one of the two informational webinars: Thursday, March 30, 2023, 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 5, 2023, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

MHA and your hospitals have made a shared commitment to advance health equity inside and outside of hospitals’ walls. These efforts were furthered last month when every Maryland hospital officially signed a Maternal Health Commitment to address longstanding disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality rates.

To support your teams and share your accomplishments, MHA recently created a new Health Equity website. To provide guidelines for when to respond to political, civil, and social concerns happening in your neighborhoods, the state, and the country, the Association developed the Social Risk Management Assessment and Response Toolkit.

We recognize historic inequities cannot be solved with one initiative or by hospitals alone, but MHA is here to support your commitment to strengthen health equity in our state.
