A lifelong Maryland resident, Bill made Baltimore City his home when he joined Teach for America and taught U.S. History and Government to ninth and tenth graders. The inequities of the public education system in Baltimore City led Bill to engage more deeply within the community and run for the Maryland Senate in 2010.

Bill is serving his third term as the State Senator for Maryland’s 46th Legislative District, which includes neighborhoods in South Baltimore, Downtown near and around the Inner Harbor, and Southeast Baltimore. In January of 2020, Bill was unanimously elected to serve as President of the Maryland Senate, making him the second youngest Senate President in state history.

Dr. Anirban Basu, MPP, MA, JD, Ph.D, is the chairman and CEO of Sage Policy Group based in Baltimore.

Dr. Basu was appointed in 2014 by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to serve as chair of the Maryland Economic Development Commission, a role he held until 2021. He currently serves as chair of the Baltimore County Economic Advisory Committee.

Dr. Basu serves on the boards of the University of Maryland School of Law, St. Mary’s College, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the University System of Maryland Foundation.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University, a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law.

Secretary of Health Dr. Meena Seshamani, former vice president of clinical care transformation at MedStar Health, most recently served as deputy administrator and director of the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. She previously was director of the Office of Health Reform at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she helped implement the Affordable Care Act. Dr. Seshamani trained in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and was a head and neck surgeon at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco.
