Maryland Hospital Association Unveils New Report: Highlights Statewide Efforts to Build a Healthier, More Equitable Future for All Marylanders

Elkridge, Md. – Hospitals across the state are dedicated to addressing the specific health equity needs of their communities. Today, the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) introduces a new publication “Building Toward Health Equity: A Report on Maryland Hospitals’ Progress,” to highlight statewide efforts to promote health equity.

This comprehensive overview showcases hospitals’ actions and commitment to address health disparities through innovation. It features 37 programs and projects taking place at MHA member hospitals and health systems in Maryland and Washington, D.C. aimed at improving economic stability, education access and quality, health care access and quality, and neighborhoods and built environments.

Additionally, the report details how the hospital field has sought to move legislative priorities—supporting 77 bills in 2023—build education and training programs, address structural racism and social drivers of health.

“Health equity is a collaborative effort that extends beyond the walls of our hospitals,” says Melony G. Griffith, MHA President & CEO. “Through partnerships and collective action with lawmakers, state agencies, community and business organizations, and others we can further drive meaningful change and create a future where every Marylander can thrive.”

“Together, we can build a healthier, more equitable future for all Marylanders,” adds Griffith.

While every hospital across the state provides high quality medical care for all Marylanders, no matter where they live, hospitals are also committed to:

  • Promote workforce diversity
  • Invest in professional development
  • Deliver culturally responsive care
  • Improve access to essential resources like healthy food and safe housing
