Medicaid Coverage Renewal

Medicaid coverage renewals are not automatic; you must check in to renew coverage.

The Maryland Hospital Association and its members have joined with the Maryland Department of Health, the Maryland Health Connection, and other state agencies to encourage Medicaid participants to update their information and generate awareness of the redetermination process through the  Medicaid Check-In campaign.

Renew Coverage

The new federal rules begin in January 2027. When patients renew next year’s coverage, they will need to complete work requirements or other activities to keep their coverage.

Maryland Health Connection will send patients a letter in September 2026 if they need to meet work requirements when they renew their coverage in 2027.

  • Downloading and sharing educational materials from the outreach toolkit.
  • Posting flyers and posters in waiting rooms and check-in/check-out areas.
  • Including information in patient portals, newsletters, or appointment reminders.
  • Directing patients to the Maryland Health Connection Check-In page for official updates and resources.

Ways To Check-In

If you are a patient on Medicaid, you can easily check in by doing one of the following.
