Harsh K. Trivedi, MD
President & CEO, Sheppard Pratt
MHA: Why did you pursue a career in health care?
HT: I was drawn to healthcare because you interface with people during their time of greatest need, and it is often during this time that you have the privilege of being involved in a defining moment in someone’s life. It is humbling to be trusted as a care provider and possibly impact the trajectory of someone’s life.
MHA: If you weren’t in health care, what would you do?
HT: If I wasn’t in healthcare, I could see myself as a teacher or coach. I enjoy helping others figure out what they are good at and giving them the backing and support to succeed and thrive.
MHA: What are you most proud of in your career?
HT: I am most proud of the teams that I have built in each of my roles over the course of my career to date. I take pride in finding good people within the organization and helping them grow in their careers. Bringing together skilled people across the health system who can perform beyond what any one person can deliver on is crucial in creating a successful organization. By assembling a well-functioning team here at Sheppard Pratt, especially at a time when we are in a mental health crisis, we have been able to create and expand the leading programs in the nation, including building a state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital from the ground up. And most importantly, we are improving much-needed access for our community.
MHA: What would people be surprised to know about you?
HT: I am a foodie who is passionate about cooking. When the heat turns up at work, one of the ways I like to relax is to be in the kitchen and cooking some of my favorite dishes. I especially love cooking with my children and helping them develop a love for cuisine.
MHA: When you aren’t working, where can we find you?
HT: You will find me in nature, traveling, hiking, and exploring new places near and far.
